Hello-
My name is Joann Mitchell and I am the Alaska Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE) Anchorage Chapter Scholarship Chair. I am writing to ask for help in distributing the attached scholarship application to high school seniors interested in pursuing a degree in engineering. Through our Alaska Engineering Education Foundation (AEEF) we fund a number of scholarships. There are two AEEF scholarships awarded state-wide--one for $2000 through AEEF, awarded as $1000 over a two year period and a second, from ASPE is $1500. There are also several awards offered at the local level through our annual Engineers Week celebration. The number and amounts of those scholarships vary depending on the amount of money raised during our fundraising efforts. Last year, there were over $10,000 dollars distributed. This one application will place a student in consideration for ALL scholarships. NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards are open to any graduating high school senior entering their freshman year at an accredited (not for profit) two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute. Applicants MUST be running their own small business in order to be considered for an award. Click here for more information. Due December 18th.
Write an original and creative essay of 1,000 words or less that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles of Courage and win $5,000 in cash and more. For more information, click here. Due January 6, 2014.
Students-The CIRI Foundation has developed an excellent guide with an extensive amount of education related information and resources that is available for you (attached below). While much of the information is specific to our Alaska Native students, there is also a lot of information applicable to all students. I encourage you to take a look at it. Note that there is a lot of scholarship information included (pages 19-32).
Catching the Dream has three scholarship programs: The MESBEC program is the oldest of CTD's programs. The six priority fields of study are math, engineering, science, business, education, and computers. Science includes all the medical fields. These fields are the ones in which tribes need graduates the most, and the fields in which there are the fewest Indian graduates. The Native American Leadership Education program (NALE) is for Native students who are paraprofessionals in Indian schools, and who plan to complete their degree in education, counseling, or school administration. Since only 7% of teachers in reservation schools are Indians, the need for more Indian teachers is huge. The Tribal Business Management program (TBM) is for students in business, finance, management, economics, banking, hotel management, and related fields who plan to work in economic development for tribes. Click here for more information. Due April 15th. The BP Process Technology scholarship program is now open to senior interested in process technology. Attached please find information on process technology as well as the application. It must be received by October 31st!
For seniors with a "B" average or higher and have achieved athletically, academically, and in community service can apply. Click here for application information. Due October 2nd.
