Students who have an interest in marine science might want to take a look at this program through the University of Alaska Southeast. The Associates of Science program is offered entirely online with scholarships and travel reimbursement available for optional lab classes in Sitka. Internships are facilitated in student's local communities. There are also live viewings of classes available for students to "sit in" on if they are interested. In addition to the Associates degree, there are certificates and occupational endorsements in Fisheries Technology.

The University of Alaska Foundation offers more than $2 million in scholarship awards annually, making higher education possible for any student who seeks it. Scholarships are available to students attending any campus of the University of Alaska (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Southeast and all community campuses). Many options are available, with hundreds of students receiving awards based on merit, financial need, outstanding achievement in specialized fields, or any combination of these criteria.
Since most scholarships are awarded early in the spring of each academic year, applications must be received by February 15th, to be considered for most scholarships. The Summer Bridge was started at the University of Washington in the mid nineties as a way to mitigate some of the problems Indigenous students had due to poor math preparation as well as issues related to career awareness and transitioning to the University from rural communities.Click here for more information. REGIONAL High School Graduate Award Recognizes scholastic achievement and civic involvement of recent area high school graduates (Valdez, Cordova, Glennallen, Kenny Lake, and Slana High Schools). Scholarship is awarded in May to high school seniors who enroll at PWSCC the following Fall semester. The deadline for this scholarship is May 15th. The Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) is a six-week summer bridging program that assists students in making the academic and social transition between high school and college. RAHI is for college-bound juniors and seniors who are willing to work hard and learn first-hand what it takes to succeed in college. Dates are May 28-July 12. Click here for more information.
