The American Legion offers a number of scholarships and other resources to assist young people in their pursuit of higher education. There are opportunities for everyone, including kin of wartime veterans and participants in Legion programs. Click here for more information.
You can help others become more alert by speaking out against the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. All eligible high school seniors may enter the Alert college scholarship essay contest. With each edition of Alert magazine, Golden West Publications awards a $500 college scholarship to the writer of the best drug and/or alcohol abuse-related essay that we receive for that state/region. REGIONAL High School Graduate Award Recognizes scholastic achievement and civic involvement of recent area high school graduates (Valdez, Cordova, Glennallen, Kenny Lake, and Slana High Schools). Scholarship is awarded in May to high school seniors who enroll at PWSCC the following Fall semester. The deadline for this scholarship is May 15th. The Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) is a six-week summer bridging program that assists students in making the academic and social transition between high school and college. RAHI is for college-bound juniors and seniors who are willing to work hard and learn first-hand what it takes to succeed in college. Dates are May 28-July 12. Click here for more information.
