College bound juniors, as well as seniors needing to improve their previous scores, have two opportunities to test yet this year. I highly encourage juniors to take at least one of these tests, and both if possible. For students desiring to qualify for the Alaska Performance Scholarship, you need to earn a qualifying test score. The test schedule is attached. Note that the registration deadline for the April 14 ACT is soon--March 9th! The final day to register for the May 5th SAT is April 6th. Everything you need to apply is found in the attachment. If you qualify for free or reduced price lunch, email me as I can get you a fee waiver. The American Legion scholarship is open to all students wishing to further their educational goals. It must be postmarked by April 30th. The application can be found below. Due April 30th.
This local scholarship is now available. Awards are for individuals who will be full-time students, in any course, which leads to a certificate or degree in an apprenticeship program; trade, technical or vocational school; or an accredited college. The Alaska Telephone Association is offering scholarship opportunities for students sponsored by Copper Valley Telecom and other Associate Members. For a student to be sponsored by CVT, a parent must be a member of the cooperative (have landline service). For additional details, click here. Due April 13th.
CVT will be offering $20,000 in scholarships ($10,000 in each district) to be made available to graduating seniors in the Valdez and Copper Basin School Districts, including Tatitlek and Mentasta, whose parents or guardians are members of CVTC (to be considered a member, customers must have landline telephone service with CVT). The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, March 16th at 6:00 p.m. Winners of the scholarship(s) will be announced at CVT's annual meetings and again at graduation. As your local telecommunications service provider, it is our pleasure to offer this national scholarship program to the students of the Valdez and Copper Basin School Districts. Should a sponsored student from one of our service areas be selected to receive one of the scholarships ($2,000), we will contribute an additional $500 to the scholarship, bringing the total one-time scholarship award to $2,500. Students may also be eligible for four FRS Staurulakis Family Scholarships valued at $5,000 each or for two TMS Scholarships at $1,500 each. Students who are majoring in math, science, engineering, or medicine are given preference for the FRS Staurulakis Family Scholarships. Additional scholarships include the Everett Kneece Return to Rural America Scholarship, valued at $7,000 and three $500 Roger Alan Cox Memorial Scholarships. Are you interested in sailing across Prince William Sound, hiking on the Copper River Delta, and meeting new peers from communities throughout the Copper River watershed? Then don’t miss out on the 2018 Copper River Stewardship Program. We are looking for ten high school students for this year’s 10-day expedition. Adventures planned include a multi-day overnight sailing trip from Cordova to Valdez, habitat stewardship projects that benefit fish and wildlife, and fun, creative writing exercises to help you find your voice. Our goal is to engage the future leaders of the region (you!) in an active exploration of your surroundings to learn about the history, ecology, and challenges facing the watershed and the wild salmon upon which you and your community depend. The Alaska Association of School Business Officials (ALASBO) will award two scholarships for the upcoming school year based on the following guidelines: 1. There will be two $1,000 scholarships. 2. The scholarship will be available to high school seniors. Applicants must obtain a sponsor who is a current ALASBO member. The applicant must intend to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university in a degree related course of study or a vocational education program. 4. This 2017-2018 school year, AASB will award fifteen graduating seniors each with a $1,500 scholarship to apply toward their post-secondary education. The scholarship may be applied toward the student’s choice of a business, trade, or a college institution. Click here for application information.
In 2010, the Copper River Watershed Project released a new scholarship program for seniors from the Copper River watershed who are graduating and pursuing continued education that will benefit the culture, environment, or economy of the region. Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded annually in the spring to one graduating student from a school in the Copper Basin (Glennallen, Kenny Lake or Slana High Schools) and one graduating student from Cordova High School. Homeschool students in the region are also eligible to apply as well as students who have spent a significant portion of their schooling in the Copper River watershed but might not be graduating from a school in the region.
