Living a life of being drug, alcohol, and tobacco free is important for all of us--whether we are students, parents, aunts or uncles, or grandparents. To encourage our students to be free of any substance use, we are holding assemblies at our schools as part of National Red Ribbon Week. The Kenny Lake program will be Tuesday, October 20th (1115 am to 12 noon), the Glennallen program will be Wednesday, October 21st (1115 to 12 noon), and the Slana program will be Thursday, October 22nd (contact the school for specific times).

Students in grades 8-12: There are still openings for the Copper River Stewardship program this coming summer, This is a great opportunity to canoe the Copper River Delta, raft on the Copper River, and hike through the interior boreal forst and coastal temperate rainforest. Trip dates are July 20 to 30. You also earn .5 high school credit! The application is attached. Get your application in as soon as possible!
The Ahtna Heritage Foundation has a summer youth interpreter position open. Must between the ages of 15 and 18 (cannot turn 19 during the program). Share the history, culture and language of the Ahtna people with Ahtna Cultural Center visitors. Assist with collection care and special events. The position pays $10 per hour. This year’s camp will be held at the Voyage to Excellence Residential School in Anchorage. Students have the choice of participating in the Culinary Arts, Construction Trades and Heavy Equipment Operation, or First Responder strands as an applied, project-based activity. Successful completion of these strands allows students to gain national certificates, high school credit (up to 1.5), and even dual college credit. Students will receive Alaska Food Handler certificates, First Responder certifications, or National Core Construction Certificates. Students will also be able to take VTE’s Driver’s Ed course and receive their learner’s permit or driver’s license. The camp is FREE for CRSD students. Parents only responsibility is to provide transportation to Anchorage prior to the camp’s start date/time, and then home again at the conclusion of the experience. See the attachments below.
